Requirements for Participation

To participate in Carolina Speech and Debate, families must fulfill the following requirements each year:

  • Join the club.
  • Register your family with Stoa – please visit this link for more details and the separate fee required.
  • Compete and volunteer at our two local, club-hosted tournaments – additional costs for this event do apply.

Parental Involvement

As with every area of homeschooling, parent involvement is key to student success—and speech and debate is no exception. While parents are always welcome (and encouraged!) to attend weekly club meetings, their role becomes crucial during tournaments. While parents won’t need to attend club every single week, there will be a few required meetings at the beginning of the season to cover key details. There will also be times during the year when we’ll need parent support—whether that’s offering feedback on practice rounds or helping with other needs. We will share those dates ahead of time so you can prepare!
